    • Unlike Stories, the feature will not expire after 24 hours and is aimed at giving creators a way to engage with their audience without resorting to posting full length videos

After Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, it seems like it’s YouTube’s turn to take on Snapchat’s Stories format. In a post on YouTube’s official blog, the company’s Senior Product Manager, Roy Livne, announced that the YouTube will introduce a similar feature called ‘Reels’. However, instead of disappearing after a day, Reels would not expire. Further, users would be able to link to other YouTube videos and add “YouTube-y Stickers” to their Reels.

A report by TechCruch notes that the idea behind Reels is to let creators express themselves and engage fans, without the need to post a full length video. Creators would be able to post videos up to 30 seconds, then add filters, music, text, and so forth.

Be it in form of the food items or the TV series or the way we spent our holidays, we love taking trips down the memory lanes.

    • On iPhone release day, I expected long lines. I expected hardware and/or software problems. We got them. I expected those lucky enough to snag a phone after waiting in line for hours to show off their new $1,000 investment.

Animoji, in case you slept through Apple’s iPhone X presentation, are animated emoji capable of mirroring your facial expressions in real-time. They’re exclusive to the iPhone X and its bevvy of advanced sensors.

Animoji make it clear we’re living in the future, and there’s no denying that people are already pretty enamored with their digital representations. And of all the ways you’d use Animoji, karaoke, so far, seems to be one of the most popular. Check it out :
    • Microsoft employee installs Chrome during mid-presentation, as Edge kept crashing

Microsoft employee installs Chrome, after Edge freezed during mid-presentation

No employee would want to be in the shoes of this Microsoft employee who was forced to switch to rival Google’s Chrome browser instead of the company’s Edge browser when the latter stopped working mid-way during presentation at the Microsoft’s Emerge conference.
It so happened when Michael Leworthy from Microsoft’s Azure Migration Team was giving a presentation on how to migrate apps and data to Microsoft’s Azure to his clients , his Edge browser hit a snag and froze. Leworthy was left with no choice but to opt for another browser, which is in this case was Google Chrome, to save his live presentation. The presentation has been uploaded to YouTube that unfolds the turn of events leading to the embarrassing cum comical moment.
“I love it when demos break. So while we’re talking here, I am going to install Chrome,” he says before opening Bing to search and install Chrome. After saying this, he starts laughing who is then received by the audience with giggles and applause.
He then goes and deselects the option “Automatically send usage statistics and crash reports to Google” box before installing the Chrome browser. “And we are not going to help make Google better,” he jokes about his blunder.
“We’re going to do this again, I’m sorry about this. The age of these machines are [sic] wacked down a little bit, there are some things that just don’t work,” he adds.
It was worth noting that Leworthy handled the situation with composure and wit and went on to complete the presentation. To know actually what happened, check out the video below (around the 37:10 mark).

    • Facebook reveals that its 270 million accounts are fakes or duplicates

Facebook is considered as the largest social media network with 2.07 billion active users per month. However, according to the third-quarter earnings report released on Wednesday, the social media giant has confessed that up to 270 million accounts on the network are fake or duplicates or illegitimate, which is somewhat more than it had previously thought.

This means that Facebook’s estimation of false accounts has increased from 1 percent last quarter to 2-3 percent this quarter, due to fake or “user-misclassified and undesirable accounts”. Also, 10 percent of the social network’s monthly users are now estimated to be duplicate accounts, which has increased from six percent estimated last quarter. To sum it, almost 13 percent of Facebook’s 2.1 billion monthly users, which is almost 270 million accounts are fake or duplicates.

Facebook explained that the changes were due to “a new methodology for duplicate accounts that included improvements to the data signals we rely on,” reported Business Insider. The new methodology helps to identify duplicate accounts, which means accounts used by the same person, representing real activity and engagement on Facebook. The same method will also be used by Facebook to enhance the accuracy of its tools for advertisers, said a source close to the matter. The improved accuracy should specially affect Facebook’s estimates for the number of real people it can reach with an advertiser’s campaign, the source said.
n comparison to Facebook’s huge network of users around the world, the 10% figure is quite small but is still equal to approximate 207 million duplicate accounts, which is apart from its 60-million policy-breaching fake accounts.
Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote in the earnings release that “We’re serious about preventing abuse on our platforms. We’re investing so much in security that it will impact our profitability. Protecting our community is more important than maximizing our profits.”
As the user base for Facebook increases, the problem of fake or duplicate accounts are likely to increase. However, the company has been trying to address the issue.
“We continuously monitor and aggressively take down those accounts. These accounts tend to be less active and thus we believe impact DAU less than MAU,” Facebook’s CFO David Wehner said.
Following the disclosure, Facebook could come under increased scrutiny about the accuracy of its data raising questions over the social network’s integrity for exposing its users to content generated on its platform by a Russian government-linked troll farm known as the Internet Research Agency between June 2015 and August 2017.

    • A fake and possibly malicious version of Facebook-owned WhatsApp was found lurking on Google Play Store as "Update WhatsApp Messenger" with developer name as 'WhatsApp Inc'.

When IANS checked it on the Play Store, we found the app has been downloaded up to 5,000 times. There is another version under the same name which has a million downloads.

The original WhatsApp has 1 billion downloads.

The existence of the shady software was first highlighted by the popular WhatsApp change tracking website WABetaInfo, via Twitter user @MujtabaMHaq, IB Times reported late on Thursday. According to the report, a version of popular mobile game Temple Run 2 can also be found which was uploaded in October.

The software posing as WhatsApp Business already have several users complaining about it in comments section.

"DON'T DOWNLOAD THIS APP! IT'S FAKE! WhatsApp Business is not officially available yet for all," the WABetaInfo social media account tweeted to its 30,000 followers.

It added: "Check only official channels to download WhatsApp Business in future." WhatsApp Business is yet to launch as a standalone service.
